September 20, 2006 - A new training program for telehandler operators with integrated platforms has been launched in Europe by the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF), the parent organization of North America's Aerial Work Platform Training, Inc. (AWPT).
The training program, titled Telehandler Platform Integrated, or TPI, joins other training programs offered by IPAF and AWPT that focus on the safe use of aerial work platforms. The TPI program is slated to be introduced in North America next year.
"The TPI course is aimed at training experienced and certified telehandler operators who may need to operate access platform attachments from within the basket rather than from the cab of the telehandler," said Peter Grant of Merlo, UK...Read Full Story

 Haulotte HA80JRT Rough-Terrain Boom Lift |
September 20, 2006 - When you are the world's third largest producer of aerial work platforms, you need to have a product to compete in each popular market segment. One of the most popular - and for many years, fastest growing - segment has been the 80-foot platform height rough-terrain boom lift. This applies to both the conventional/straight and articulating configurations. To compete in this market segment, The Haulotte Group, L'Horme, France, introduced the HA80JRT boom lift to the global market in 2005 and started importing machines into North America in early 2006. Haulotte's HA80JRT boom lift has what I call a hybrid boom design – part conventional, part articulating. The upper section is a long, single telescoping boom that is about 50 feet long when it is extended. The lower section is a dual parallelogram riser that elevates the upper boom...Read Full Story

September 20, 2006 - Editor's Note: Rick's column this month is in response to a recent act of vandalism in Independence, Mo. According to various news sources, vandals caused more than an estimated $1 million in damage to equipment at the Bass Pro Shops construction site. A trailer was overturned, and earth-moving equipment was wrecked or smashed at the 127-acre work site. The vandals apparently tried to drive some of the equipment off a dam at the east end of the site. About a dozen pieces of equipment were damaged and two pieces were completely destroyed. The equipment included scissor lifts, telehandlers, cranes, and excavators, as well as other pieces of machinery...Read Full Story
