October 19, 2006 Monday's announcement that JLG Industries had agreed to be purchased by Oshkosh Truck Corporation, Oshkosh, Wis., took everybody by surprise. In fact, William Lasky, JLG chairman, president and CEO was quoted in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel as saying that JLG was not for sale when it was approached by Oshkosh. "To be honest, I was hoping to find a reason why I didn't think it would be a good fit for JLG. Unfortunately, that didn't last very long when I looked at the success and track record of Oshkosh," Lasky said...Read Full Story

|
October 19, 2006 Five cranes and a boom option were introduced to customers at Link-Belt's CraneFest '06, held last week at the company's Lexington, Ky., headquarters. Perhaps the most significant introduction is the 230-ton 298 HSL lattice boom crawler crane, which provides a modern replacement for many aging friction crawlers in the same capacity range and still in use in fleets across the country.
In that capacity range, there haven't been many modern crane introductions, said Pat Collins, Link-Belt's senior product manager for lattice cranes. According to Collins, the company was disciplined in its approach to maintain a simple design while offering the benefits of hydraulic operation...Read Full Story

Featuring a 600-pound capacity shelf on the exterior of the platform, the Glazer Platform allows glazers to walk glass into position at heights without sacrificing safety or platform capacity.
To safely move glass or other materials, glazers fit the exact width of their materials between adjustable vertical standards and strap them in. Neoprene rubber cushions the materials on the shelf. When in position, glazers can then move the glass from the forklift without leaving the personnel platform...Read Full Story

Customer Care Demands a Live Voice
Examining the value of 24/7 service.
Contributed by RSC Equipment Rental
October 19, 2006 The first week of October was the 14th annual National Customer Service Week, but in recognizing the occasion, it's worth taking stock of how well American businesses the rental industry, in particular are actually serving the needs of their customers.

Granted, these tools are wonderful time-savers for the companies that use them, but what about urgent requests that require the expertise and rapid response of a well-trained, live person? And how well are companies providing this support to their customers after normal business hours? These questions are especially important in industries that rent construction and industrial equipment, given the high value of jobsite time and the 24/7 nature of many projects...Read Full Story
