Three Cranes Team Up for Massive Covered Bridge Project

 


It took three cranes to place four hefty sections of the nation’s largest covered bridge in Ashtabula County, Ohio.

November 5, 2008 – The Smolen-Gulf Bridge put Ashtabula County, Ohio, on the map this summer as the home of the nation’s newest and largest covered bridge. Made entirely of wood, the 40-foot-wide structure spans 613 feet over the Ashtabula River. Its claim to fame is also the proof of the benefits of frugal construction and the economy of time, space and equipment.

Four 152-foot long sections, weighing in at 325,000 pounds each, make up the driving surface of the covered bridge.

November 5, 2008 – When Bil-Jax Inc., Archbold, Ohio, entered the self-propelled boom lift market in early 2007, the company decided to focus on offering the easiest product to sell to its already developed clientele: smaller, independent rental companies. Bil-Jax established a strong presence with this market through the popular Summit Series trailer-mounted aerial lifts.

The company also determined that the quickest, most cost-effective way to build a self-propelled product was to leverage as many engineering
strategies and components from the Summit

Lawrenceburg, KY, November 2008The state of Kentucky is investigating the death of a man involved in a forklift accident. The 34-year-old worker was killed after a load of steel rebar shifted on a forklift and fell on him. An investigator with the Kentucky Occupational Safety and Health program is reviewing the accident.
