Last Chance! Lift and Access LLEAP Entries Due July 17


For the fifth year, Lift and Access is holding the Leadership in Lifting Equipment and Aerial Platforms (LLEAP) Awards, which are intended to recognize products, accessories, or design concepts that are considered innovative or have advanced the state of the lifting equipment industry. To qualify for consideration, products must have been introduced or delivered to the North American market between April 1, 2008, and March 31, 2009.

July 14, 2009 – Within any organization, there is a person, department, or team whose work not only benefits the employer but also contributes positively to the industry. Through the People of Distinction recognition program, Lift and Access acknowledges those in the lifting equipment industry who have made a difference through research, innovation, creativity, and hard work. To qualify for People of Distinction, an individual, department, or team had to be nominated by an employer, customer, client, or other industry professional for his achievement in product development or engineering, safety, service, maintenance, sales or marketing development, or other similar activity.

How Do Retreads Stack Up?

July 14, 2009 – One of my favorite movie comedies has a scene where a fellow’s wife peeked through a window and saw him in bed with another woman. When she confronted him, he denied it and said: “Who are you going to believe, me or your stinkin’ eyes?”

I mention this because a great frustration to our industry is the notion that some fleet managers still have, which is that retreaded tires can’t be depended on for reliability. Our industry suffers from what I call the “Rodney Dangerfield” effect; in the words of the comedian, “We don’t get no respect.” However, the facts are 180 degrees different.
