AWP Council Works to Finalize Training Guidelines

July 28, 2009 – The Aerial Work Platform Council met last week at the Scaffold Industry Association’s Annual Conference and Exposition in San Francisco, Calif. In recent months, the AWP Council has developed a presentation for OSHA with non-mandatory AWP operator training guidelines based on the OSHA forklift training requirements in 1910.178 (I), through the SIA’s OSHA Alliance.
At the meeting, Jeff Stachowiak, co-chair of the AWP Council, presented the training guidelines to the 23 AWP Council members in attendance.

July 28, 2009 – Bigge Crane and Rigging, San Leandro, Calif., stepped up to the plate for a four-day project at a research center in San Francisco, Calif. The project required a variety of services, lift equipment and challenging rigging that was all operated and maintained by Bigge.
Bigge provided a five-man rigging crew and its 275-ton Liebherr LR1200SX crawler crane for the project at the UCSF Cardiovascular Research Building in San Francisco. The new state-of-the-art building will house the existing world-renowned UCSF Cardiovascular Research Institute.

Tulsa, Okla., June 2009 – A worker was crushed to death when the hydraulic scissor lift he was working under fell on him. According to the police, the 33-year-old man disconnected an improperly working hydraulic hose, and the lift fell.
