November 17, 2009 – Maximum Capacity Media, Fort Dodge, Iowa, hosted its fourth annual Lift and Access Equipment Showcase last week at the Radisson Fort McDowell Resort & Casino in Scottsdale, Ariz. The event focused on a variety of equipment categories, including 6,000-pound straight mast forklifts, 45-foot RT articulating boom lifts, 32- to 35-ton and 50-ton boom trucks, and the OEM's choice of electric aerial lifts, which comprised boom lifts, RT scissor lifts, compact scissor and vertical lifts, and a compact spider-type aerial lift. In addition to product manufacturers, component vendors and editors from Construccion Pan Americana, Crane Hot Line, and RER attended the annual event.

Performance Tests Prove Outrigger Crane Pads' Strength

November 17, 2009 – Composite Advantage, Dayton, Ohio, has completed performance testing on its FiberRigg outrigger pad at the National Composite Center (NCC). Composite Advantage conducted two types of tests on the high-performance fiberglass composite crane outrigger pad using extreme conditions. The test results confirmed that FiberRigg exceeded performance expectations and experienced no failure. "Although the ideal case for crane outrigger pads is to sit on a hard, compacted surface, worksite soils vary greatly and it is equally important to have pads that can perform in soft soil without excessive deflection," said Scott Reeve, president of Composite Advantage.

Kansas City, Mo., November 2009 – One worker was killed and another injured when a boom lift tipped over at a performing arts center under construction, police said. The two workers were in the platform when the 100-foot-tall boom lift fell away from the building and landed across a platform of steel beams.
