Perkins Celebrates the Past, Eyes the Future

Perkins, originally founded in Peterborough, UK, in 1932, is one of the world’s leading providers of diesel and gas engines. Although the company has been part of Caterpillar for nearly two decades, Perkins has a rich and diverse history stretching back 85 years. Caterpillar and Perkins joined forces in 1997, creating a global company and the world’s largest diesel engine manufacturer – now leading the way in engineering technology.

Celebrating Innovation.

In celebration of Perkins' 85-year milestone, the Seguin, Texas team recently hosted an event focusing on innovation and digital services. There, they unveiled Perkins’ new Bluetooth engine telematics device, a ‘smart’ oil cap – Perkins® SmartCap – intended for use on new and existing Perkins mechanical and electronic engines. Designed to replace the oil filler cap, Perkins SmartCap is a low-cost solution allowing customers to connect their engines to a mobile device, giving them real time engine data.

Enabling Connectivity.

The cap works in conjunction with the Perkins My Engine App, allowing customers to easily track engine use and service requirements, locate their local Perkins distributor, access parts information, and receive service updates, all from a mobile device.

“The low-cost cap and free app are very simple to use,” said Michael Wright, General Manager – Aftermarket. “The fact the cap can be fitted to any Perkins engine in a matter of minutes and instantly provides engine telematics will be appreciated by millions of Perkins end users both in the United States and around the world,” Wright added.

The celebration event was attended by numerous journalists and Perkins North American distributors. It included a brand presentation and facility tour showcasing the facility’s new Customer Experience Center.
