Scally to Edit Lift and Access Magazine

Heartland Communications Inc. has named respected B2B equipment journalist Karen M. Scally to edit Lift and Access magazine, and its supplements, Telecom and Utility Construction and Components & Consumables.

Scally succeeds Mike Larson, who has edited the magazines for the past seven years. Larson will remain Heartland’s editorial director and will also continue to edit the company’s Crane Hot Line magazine.

In addition to editing the print publications, Scally will assure that the company’s annual Leadership in Lifting Equipment and Aerial Platforms (LLEAP) competition, will continue to be the industry’s top program recognizing innovation and value in new products.

She will also develop content for the LiftandAccess.com website, contribute to the weekly Lifting360 enewsletter, and help develop other content for the brand.

Scally’s experience in B2B journalism includes offering content development and marketing services through Karen M. Scally LLC; leading three media brands as publisher (Site Prep, POB, and GeoDataPoint); and serving as group editor for those three brands plus National Driller.

In 2012, she was named one of “15 Under 30” (to watch) by FOLIO: Magazine.

Before entering B2B journalism, Scally spent four years as a copy editor at The Detroit News and previously had been news editor at The Dearborn Press & Guide in Dearborn, Mich. She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Bob Jones University, Greenville, S.C.

“We feel very fortunate to have a journalist with Karen’s skills, experience, and personality working on Lift and Access,” said Larson. “The publication is in excellent hands, and I am excited for the industry to meet Karen at The Rental Show in February,” he said.

“I am thrilled to be connected with Lift and Access, and I’m honored to have the opportunity to continue Mike’s legacy of developing quality content that helps our readers succeed in their business decisions,” Scally said.
