Tadano Mantis Unveils New 35-Ton Crane

Tadano Mantis Corporation has unveiled a new, 35-ton-capacity GTC-series telescopic-boom crawler crane.

The new model carries the GTC-Series’ typical features and benefits.

Superior Capacity: The 35-US-ton capacity at a 10-ft. radius base rating of the crane is significantly higher than other units of similar size. As with all Tadano Mantis cranes, the 35-ton rating is a real, usable capacity with a “level” ground load chart that allows operation on slopes to 1.5° so the crane can be used to full capability without having to make ground perfectly level. The crane has full-chart pick-and-carry capacity through 360°.

Tadano Boom: The three-section full-power boom can telescope with load to its maximum length of 89’3”. Tadano Japan has designed and manufactured the boom to give the GTC series crane high capacities and suit it for heavy duty work such as foundation, pick-and-carry, and work on slopes up to 4°. The long boom is complemented by 23’6” – 42’0” extendible jib that has a maximum tip height of 135’9” and can be offset to 5°, 25°, or 45°. The jib’s load charts allow lifting on slopes to 2.5°.

OPTI-WIDTH: Tadano Mantis’ exclusive Opti-Width crawler-stance system offers infinite symmetrical or asymmetrical track positions. The powerful hydraulic track-extension system can adjust track stance from 10’9” to 15’9” (with 29.5”-wide track shoes) for the optimal lifting base to meet site conditions. The crawlers do not have to be pinned in set widths, so users can adjust track stance to the best width for each lift, and the AML-C rated-capacity indicator automatically selects the right load charts.

Charts for asymmetrically positioned tracks have capacity enhancements, compared to those for symmetrical track positions. Opit-Width incorporates zoned load charts, rotational position sensing, and soft stops to ensure that the crane operator cannot swing a load into a zone where the crane will be out of capacity. The crane uses the full capabilities of the Tadano AML-C rated capacity indicator and has load charts for 1.5°, 2.5°, and 4° slope. The charts switch automatically, based on the crane’s position. The system also lets the operator set work-zone limits for swing angle, boom height, and boom radius, and the control system provides soft stops as operation approaches those pre-set operating limits.

Compactness: In standard configuration, the crane measures 10’9” wide x 43’1” long x 8’2” high (with 29.5” wide track shoes). Optional track shoes can reduce the minimum operating and transport width to 8’6” and the overall height can easily be reduced to under 8’0” to allow this low profile crane to access sites that other cranes can’t. Transport weight with standard equipment is 71,300 lbs. and its unladen ground pressure is 7.6 psi.

Efficient Power: The Cummins Tier 4F QSB4.5 diesel engine is rated at 173 hp @ 2,200 rpm. Engine speed is controlled by the auto-idle system, adaptive throttle control, or pedal control. The load-sensing, power-controlled, hydraulic system optimizes hydraulic output for efficient operation and control. The swing system is powered by a separate closed-loop hydrostatic transmission for superior performance in either free swing or hydrostatically controlled swing. Maximum swing speed is 2.2 rpm. The travel system features 2-speed track drive with a top speed of 2.1 mph and a maximum unladen gradeability of 70%.

Hello-Net Telematics: Telematics monitors machine’s work history, position, and maintenance data. That information can be accessed, free, through Tadano’s Hello-Net internet portal.

Productivity enhancing options:

An auger can be mounted to the boom’s base section or second stage for variable-radius drilling out to 54 ft. at any swing angle. The system can handle auger torque to 14,500 lb-ft.

A WP-750, two-person, 750-lb.-capacity work platform can be mounted to the boom or the 23’0” offsetable jib for a maximum platform height of 120 ft.
