TGM Wind Services' Bronto S 230 XTD on Display at ICUEE | Powered Access

Bronto Skylift North America featured a 230-ft. Model S 230 XTD truck-mounted aerial lift in its display at ICUEE 2013.

The model is not new in the Bronto line, but it is the first owned by TGM Wind Services, Abilene, Texas. Although a large, high-reaching truck-mounted aerial by most standards, the S 230 XTD is significantly smaller than the other Bronto aerials that make up TGM’s fleet.

TGM executive Kevin Darby explained that his family’s company bought the S 230 XTD in order to expand its services into new market segments beyond the wind-power and electric utility industry, such as heavy construction, building inspection, and industrial maintenance. To that end, TGM plans to add two to three more S 230 XTD aerials to its fleet in the next two years.

The Bronto S 230 XTD on display at ICUEE was rear-mounted on a Mack Granite four-axle chassis with an 80,000-lb. GVWR. Road ready, the rig measures 13’ 3.5” tall, 40’ 0” long, and 8’ 2” wide, and weighs 75,130 lbs.

The aerial lift provides up to 224 ft. of platform height, 115 ft. of horizontal reach, platform capacity from 300 lbs. to 1,400 lbs.

Other features include the Bronto+ electronic control system, which offers fully variable outrigger placement, variable cage load, and automatically optimized outreach. Ramping provides smooth starts and stops.
