Terex AWP Offers Cold Weather Package for Genie Booms

Terex AWP has introduced a redesigned Cold Weather Package for Genie boom lifts.

October 6, 2009 – To prepare for the upcoming winter season, Terex Aerial Work Platforms (AWP), Redmond, Wash., has introduced a redesigned Cold Weather Package for many of its Genie articulating and telescopic boom lifts for the North American market. By combining the best features of its former Arctic and Cold Packages, the new Genie Cold Weather Package is essential for equipment operating in colder temperatures.

“The user will experience greater uptime with our Cold Weather Package because it is designed to do two things: improve engine starting in cold conditions, and optimize LCD display and hydraulic drive and function response,” said Frank Schneider, Genie boom product manager, Terex AWP.

The new Cold Weather Package includes synthetic engine oil, a 110V AC warming blanket for the starting battery, and either an oil pan heater or engine block heater depending on engine type. To accommodate various boom model configurations, the package may also include a ground control LCD panel heating element, platform control board heater, 110V AC hydraulic reservoir warming blanket and platform function hydraulic oil recirculation.

The LCD panel heater and platform control panel heater, previously part of the Arctic Package, are now combined with the original Cold Package features to form the new Cold Weather Package. The package also contains an oversized foot switch cover that accommodates winter footwear.

Engine block heaters, synthetic oil, and oil pan heaters all improve cold engine cranking. LCD and platform control panel heaters allow LCD displays and electronic control membranes to respond more quickly in freezing temperatures. Battery warming blankets, which have an electrical cord that plugs into a standard three-prong North American 110V AC 60Hz wall outlet, help increase cranking power. On certain Genie boom models, a 110V AC hydraulic reservoir warming blanket helps warm hydraulic fluid while the platform recirculation keeps warm fluid continuously flowing to and from the platform functions.

The Cold Weather Package is immediately available and can be ordered for units shipping to North America.
