Genie Increases Boom Lift Platform Capacity
February 8, 2010 – In an effort to
increase operator productivity, Terex Aerial Work Platforms, Redmond, Wash., is
offering Genie telescopic boom models with greater platform capacities within a
restricted outreach. The Genie S-60X, S-60XC, S-60 Trax, and S-80X will feature
restricted platform capacities up to 1,250 pounds and 500 pounds of unrestricted
capacities. The increased capacity allows up to three occupants in the platform,
which can enhance productivity. New booms with this feature will be available in
all ANSI and CSA markets beginning March 1.
With the dual
capacity booms, the operator enters the platform, starts the machine, then
selects either 500 pounds of the unit’s maximum capacity. The machine will set
the appropriate outreach and operating envelope based on the input. If the
platform reaches the maximum envelope. The machine will stop and a light will
flash to alert the operator. If the operator wants to change the platform
capacity, he or she must select the new capacity.
“The dual capacity of the work platform
now allows the operator the choice of setting the appropriate capacity for the
necessary operation,” said Frank Schneider, Genie® Booms Product Manager, Terex
AWP. “Although there are other dual capacity products in the industry, the Genie
dual capacity booms are the only ones which allow the operator the ability to
select the desired maximum load capacity that automatically restricts the
operating envelope.”
Other benefits of
these units include a ramped boom control system, which provides smooth boom
functions due to angle sensors and limit switches, resulting in finer control. A
virtual pivot primary boom aligns the machine’s center of gravity, resulting in
lower machine weight. Fixed width axles provide faster setup time, increasing
jobsite productivity, while active oscillating axles provide superior traction
increasing jobsite access and productivity.
A simplified
hydraulic system provides smooth motion for users, while cable sequenced boom
assembly make the booms easy to inspect. Both features help to reduce service
time. A heavy duty platform better withstands increased platform
loads.
