September 2, 2010 – Eaton Corp., Eden Prairie, Minn., recently completed a Hydraulics Instructor Symposium, to expose hydraulics industry trainers to the latest in both emerging hydraulic technologies and instructional methodologies. Hosted at the company’s hydraulic training center in Maumee, Ohio, the symposium was attended by representatives of Alexandria Technical College, The University of Dayton, and Alfred College, as well as training executives and instructors from Eaton’s customers and distributors across North America.

September 2, 2010 – Travelers, Hartford, Conn., has updated its training courses to help customers gain certification regarding the new Cranes and Derricks regulation recently enacted by OSHA.

MeVEA Crane Simulator

September 2, 2010­ – MeVEA Ltd. of Finland and Forssa Finland Adult Education Center (Faktia) have signed a contract for MeVEA to deliver a crane simulator to provide training and education at Faktia. The simulator is designed, developed and manufactured in co-operation with the training center and will be delivered by the end of 2010. A construction simulation environment, which can be used for both mobile and tower crane operator training, will be developed. The training simulator reflects features of a real crane and offers an interactive and versatile training environment. The simulator is designed to enable basic training as well as advanced training with difficult and dangerous situations, and can imitate weather conditions such as wind and rain. One of the main advantages of a simulator is that the trainee can be tested without the risk of personnel or machinery damages. The simulator will include large LCD screens, a touch screen, a surround-sound system, an electric motion platform, and software that is based on real-time simulation of dynamics.

Automatic Sales Tax Updates

September 2, 2010 — RMI Corp., Avon, Conn. has partnered with CCH to deliver sales tax rates automatically to RMI Advantage Cloud customers. This new partnership allows Advantage customers in the United States and Canada to receive automatically updated sales tax tables, reducing the time needed for manual updates. Sales tax regulations differ across taxing jurisdictions and are modified in one region or another nearly every month.  Businesses with nexus in multiple states, jurisdictions with complex rate structures, or regions with frequent changes commonly find the task of managing sales tax rates to be especially challenging.

September 1, 2010 – This year, roughly 37 million higher-frequency RFID and RTLS-enabled asset tracking and asset management tags are expected to ship. But in 2014, such shipments will total almost 150 million, according to a new study released by ABI Research, in New York. The compound annual growth rate (CAGR) for 2010-2014 is more than 40 percent.
