United Rentals, Serious Labs Partner on Virtual Reality MEWP Training

United Rentals is partnering with Serious Labs Inc. to provide virtual reality (VR) MEWP training as part of its blended learning model for operator certification.

This model – new to the equipment rental industry – debuted on Nov. 28 when United Rentals opened its first United Academy training center with VR simulation in Alberta, Canada.

Lift and Access announced the winners of the 13th annual Leadership in Lifting Equipment and Aerial Plaftorms (LLEAP) Awards, which recognize the industry's most innovative new products.

To be considered in the 2018 LLEAP competition, a new product, major product improvement, or accessory must have been available in North America and introduced or delivered to the market between June 1, 2017, and May 31, 2018.

Serious Labs Adds Skyjack President to Board

Virtual reality training solutions provider Serious Labs announced that Skyjack President Brad Boehler has joined its board of directors.

Boehler will advise on business and strategy topics, and provide counsel regarding the compliance of VR simulators with a variety of standards. His appointment expands the board to seven members.

ARA Announces 2018 Volunteer Awards

The American Rental Association (ARA) announced its recipients of the 2018 volunteer recognition awards, honoring individuals for outstanding service to the association and the rental industry.

The awards will be presented during the ARA Show in Anaheim, Calif., Feb. 17-20, 2019.

IPAF Issues Guides for New ANSI A92 Standards

The International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) released important guidance to help companies and individuals understand the new ANSI A92 standards, set to be published Dec. 10 and go in effect December 2019.

Four IPAF white papers identify key changes in the North American (both ANSI and CSA) standards to help define responsibilities for companies, owners, and operators in order to become compliant.

ANSI A92 Standard Updates Approved for MEWP Design, Use

ANSI is planning to publish the updated A92 suite of standards on Dec. 10, setting the stage to usher in sweeping changes for the design and use of mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs).

The changes to the standards will affect manufacturers, dealers, rental companies, owners, and users of MEWPs. The new standards are more than six years and thousands of man-hours in the making, said Ted Beville, executive director of the Scaffold & Access Industry Association (SAIA), which serves as the standards' secretariat.

ARA Forecasts North American Rental Revenue to Reach $71.7B in 2022

The American Rental Association (ARA) adjusted its five-year rental revenue forecast to again project greater gains, estimating that rental revenues in North America will exceed $71.7 billion in 2022, including $65.4 billion in the United States and $6.3 billion in Canada.

Manitou North America Names Western Region VP

Manitou North America appointed David Chickowski as its new western region Vice President. 

Chickowski will oversee all sales activities for Manitou, Gehl, Mustang by Manitou, and Edge brands in the western region of the United States and Canada. He will be focused on driving overall growth and profitability in the region by developing strategic market initiatives and strategies for the dealer network, rental customers, and other market channels.

JLG to Offer Reverse Safety Feature on Boom Lifts
