Skyjack Introduces Largest RT Scissor Lift at ARA Show

Skyjack introduced the SJ9253 RT, its largest rough terrain scissor lift to date with a working height of 59 ft., at the 2019 ARA Show in Anaheim held Feb. 18-20. 

The SJ9253 RT is the first model in the industry leader’s new full size rough terrain range. This new range replaces Skyjack’s existing 88-in. and 92-in. models and consists of the SJ9233, SJ9243, SJ9253, and SJ9263 RT.

ARA: Rental Equipment Revenue Growth Continues to Outpace Economy

The latest five-year forecast from the American Rental Association (ARA) projects that rental revenues in North America will surpass $61.5 billion in 2019, up 5.3% compared to 2018.

Similar steady growth is expected in each of the successive years of the forecast to reach nearly $70.9 billion in revenue by 2022.

The current figures, which are updated quarterly, project slightly less growth than what was forecast in October, reflecting different factors that have slightly slowed the projected growth of the U.S. economy.

JLG Industries, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary year at the 2019 ARA Show in Anaheim on Feb. 18-20, introduced a variety of new technologies on its MEWPs and telehandlers, including a mobile app to drive scissor lifts in the stowed position, as well as two new R Series scissor lift models.

Manitou North America added three key members to its senior leadership team in order to help drive the customer experience for its Manitou, Gehl, and Mustang by Manitou brands.

The manufacturer named Myron Birschbach the new vice president of service and aftermarket; Scott McGuigan, eastern region vice president for Manitou North America sales; and Jill Pintor, business coordinator for Manitou North America.

Wade Jones has been named general manager of North America parts, a newly created role. Jones will partner with the JLG parts sales team while continuing to lead JLG parts distribution center operations. Jones brings with him to this new role 13 years of JLG experience, most recently as the regional vice president of sales and service, and more than 20 years in the heavy equipment industry.

IPAF Shares Strategies for VR Simulators to Enhance Operator Training

The International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) released a comprehensive eXtended Reality (XR) strategy paper outlining how technologies including virtual reality (VR) and MEWP simulators can enhance, as opposed to replace, operator training.

In 2018, IPAF led an industry-wide consultation to produce a policy document on how VR systems can be effectively and safely used to train MEWP operators, leading to its ground-breaking set of recommendations.

MEWP Industry Veteran Robertson Was ‘Legendary,’ Colleagues Say

Describing him as “grand in all aspects of the word,” colleagues from throughout the access industry are paying tribute to Universal Equipment President Alastair Robertson, following his death Jan. 30, 2019.

Robertson worked with many OEMs since he started in the MEWP industry in 1981, and he served on the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) North American Regional Council since 2004. He also shared his expertise as a Leadership in Lifting Equipment and Aerial Platforms (LLEAP) Awards judge for Lift and Access magazine.
