The former owner of Landmark Equipment, a long-time member of the Pettibone dealer network based in Portland, Oregon, has retired and sold the company to two of his employees.

United Rentals, Serious Labs Partner on Virtual Reality MEWP Training

United Rentals is partnering with Serious Labs Inc. to provide virtual reality (VR) MEWP training as part of its blended learning model for operator certification.

This model – new to the equipment rental industry – debuted on Nov. 28 when United Rentals opened its first United Academy training center with VR simulation in Alberta, Canada.

2018 LLEAP Award Winners Announced

Lift and Access announced the winners of the 13th annual Leadership in Lifting Equipment and Aerial Plaftorms (LLEAP) Awards, which recognize the industry's most innovative new products.

To be considered in the 2018 LLEAP competition, a new product, major product improvement, or accessory must have been available in North America and introduced or delivered to the market between June 1, 2017, and May 31, 2018.

The two top-ranked products in each of the five LLEAP categories are:

IPAF Issues Guides for New ANSI A92 Standards

The International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) released important guidance to help companies and individuals understand the new ANSI A92 standards, set to be published Dec. 10 and go in effect December 2019.

Four IPAF white papers identify key changes in the North American (both ANSI and CSA) standards to help define responsibilities for companies, owners, and operators in order to become compliant.

ANSI A92 Standard Updates Approved for MEWP Design, Use

ANSI is planning to publish the updated A92 suite of standards on Dec. 10, setting the stage to usher in sweeping changes for the design and use of mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs).

The changes to the standards will affect manufacturers, dealers, rental companies, owners, and users of MEWPs. The new standards are more than six years and thousands of man-hours in the making, said Ted Beville, executive director of the Scaffold & Access Industry Association (SAIA), which serves as the standards' secretariat. 

Pink Manitex Boom Truck Raises Support for Breast Cancer Awareness

Manitex International Inc., Bridgeview, Illinois, unveiled a pink 22101S boom truck with custom graphics to help support the fight against breast cancer.

Manitex, along with several dealers, customized the boom truck for the 2018 TCI Expo in Charlotte. The crane was displayed throughout the event and headed into service with its colors immediately after the show. Manitex will donate the excess contributions from its dealers and customers to the local Charlotte chapter of the Susan G. Komen foundation for furthering breast cancer research.

Genie, Redmond, Washington, has expanded its used equipment team in North America in anticipation of increased demand in North America.

Lead by Mitch Ely, Genie director of North American services, Terex AWP, the team now includes Kevin Spencer, Marcy Lemin, and Scott Sensenbrenner in the field and is supported by a dedicated used equipment inside sales team at the factory.

Perkins Engines’ New Kentucky Parts Center to Speed Delivery, Service

Perkins Engines is focusing on faster parts delivery and service with its new 37,000-sq.-ft. regional logistics center (RLC) in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.

Perkins chose the location for the center, which shares space in the UPS-SCS multi-client Kentucky Distribution Center, to be close to the UPS Worldport facility less than 50 miles away at Louisville International Airport and its access to the U.S. Interstate highway system to facilitate ground shipments across the U.S. and Canada.

Paramount Equipment, importer and distributor of the Magni Telescopic Handlers, welcomed customers and Magni executives at the grand opening of its New Jersey headquarters on Oct. 25.

The Roselle, New Jersey, facility underwent a complete renovation and now offers modern offices, service bays, and numerous spare parts. The facility is designed to reinforce Magni’s support for its customers.

The long-awaited proposed ANSI A92 standards, with extensive updates for the MEWP equipment industry, have been submitted to ANSI for approval by the Scaffold & Access Industry Association (SAIA), which serves as the secretariat for the standards.

The submission came after an appeal panel unanimously found in favor of the appeal’s respondent, the A92 chairman and secretariat, said DeAnna Martin, SAIA associate director and ANSI liaison. Now, ANSI will conduct a review, Martin said.
