Commercial Construction Index Reveals Continued Optimism Among Contractors

Confidence in the commercial construction industry is strong, despite significant concerns around jobsite efficiency and labor productivity, according to the Q4 2017 USG Corporation + U.S. Chamber of Commerce Commercial Construction Index (Index). Released today, the Index shows that optimism remains high in the commercial construction industry, with 57 percent of contractors expecting to hire in the next six months and a large majority reporting stable or increased revenue expectations in the next year. The Q4 composite score is 74, up one point from Q3.

Manitowoc Celebrates Two Award Wins for New Models

Manitowoc’s new product development program has enjoyed its strongest year in recent times, and the company’s efforts are being recognized with two cranes that were launched in 2017 earning industry awards. The prize-winning Manitowoc cranes are the Hup 40-30 self-erecting crane from Potain and the TMS9000-2 truck crane from Grove.

Ion Warner, vice president of marketing and investor relations at Manitowoc, said the awards were deserved recognition for the company’s hard work in recent years.

Smith Erectors Takes 75RT ‘to the limit’

Smith Erectors, Inc. of Markle, IN recently spent four days working around the clock to service Steel Dynamic, Inc.’s (SDI) Columbia City, IN plant. SDI fabricates structural, rail, and engineered steel as part of their New Millennium Building Systems in a multi-building complex. Plant shut downs are required to maintain heavily used equipment in adverse conditions.

Manitowoc has introduced a new all-terrain crane, the best-in-class Grove GMK4090. The new taxi crane features a modern, compact design that puts emphasis on roadability and maneuverability.  

The new crane comes in response to customer demand for lightweight, flexible taxi cranes in the 90 t (100 USt) capacity class. It represents a generational upgrade over the previous GMK4080-1/GMK4100B, a popular all-terrain crane in Europe due to its versatility in applications, especially with rental companies.  

Link-Belt Cranes Vice President of Engineering Don Moore Set to Retire, Richard Shultz to Succeed

Effective December 31, 2017, Vice President of Engineering, Don Moore has announced his decision to retire from Link-Belt Cranes.

Moore began his career at Link-Belt in 1977, accepting a position as an associate design engineer in the Tower Gantry Crane Product Group at Link-Belt in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He then moved to the Lattice Boom Crawler Product Group, eventually being promoted to senior design engineer.
