June 20, 2019 - Access industry pioneer Art Moore, the founder of Snorkel and a current board member, died June 19, 2019. He was 94.

Known for his drive and determination, Art's innovative career has left a lasting impact on the global work-at-height industry. His imaginative designs and pursuit for quality helped to shape the industry in its infancy and set standards still followed to present day.

ANSI Rules in Favor of Appeals Against A92 Standards for MEWPs

The ANSI Board of Standards Review (BSR) found in favor of two appeals filed against the approval of the new A92 standards for MEWPs, stating that the design, safe use, and training standards violate the commercial terms and conditions of ANSI’s Essential Requirements. 

The appeals, which were heard by the BSR on May 7, pertained to the requirements of the Manual of Responsibilities (MOR) and that modifications or additions to a MEWP be made only with the permission of the manufacturer, arguing that those provisions were not in compliance with ANSI’s commercial policy.

The MEWP rental market is still booming, with the worldwide fleet nearing 1.5 million units, but uncertainty clouds longer-term outlooks, according to the latest market analysis from the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF).

IPAF’s Global Powered Access Rental Market Report is exclusively compiled by research intelligence company, DuckerFrontier, formerly Ducker Worldwide. For the past two years, the report was positive across the board, with the U.S. in particular exceeding expectations and experiencing steady growth.

United Rentals Names Former Riwal CEO to New Executive Role

United Rentals appointed Norty Turner to the newly created role of senior vice president of services and advanced solutions.

Turner, the former CEO of Riwal, will oversee four business units, including United Academy, customer equipment service, customer fleet solutions, and advanced solutions. His role will have a distinctive focus on building out service and solution platforms to better support customers.

JLG Industries and Dana Incorporated announced their collaboration at the 2019 Bauma in Munich to develop an advanced Spicer Electrified e-Axle for the next generation of MEWPs as part of JLG's electrification initiative. 

The Spicer Electrified e-Axle features an optimized combination of electrified drive components packaged in a configuration that reduces power losses by up to 20% when compared with traditional diesel-powered drivetrains.

Elliott Equipment Company introduced its new V60 material handling aerial work platform, featuring a 63-ft. working height and 1,000-lb. material handling capacity.

The V60 mounts on a non-CDL, 19,000-lb. GVWR chassis for increased driver flexibility. It provides 38 ft. of working side reach and a 30-in. by 40-in. top mounted platform with a 500-lb. capacity material handling jib. The jib quickly converts into a boom tip winch with 1,000-lb. capacity when operated from the ground controls.

Skyjack signed an exclusive deal with MacFarlands Industrial to be the sole supplier of all DC electric scissor lifts for their new Moncton, New Brunswick equipment rental location.

MacFarlands has been renting throughout Atlantic Canada for over 50 years, and, according to the company, is excited to stock their fleet with Canadian-made aerial equipment.

Custom Equipment introduced the Hy-Brid PA-1030 push-around lift as a safer and more productive alternative to ladders and scaffolding.

The model enables users to manually maneuver the unit into place and hydraulically raise and lower to the desired work height. 

The PA-1030 features a 10-ft. platform height and a 16-ft. working height. The platform is 41-in. long by 20.5-in. wide, and the total stowed height is only 69 in.

Genie to Launch High-Reach Electric Slab Scissor Lift at Bauma

Genie will debut its electric GS-4655 scissor lift at Bauma in Munich, set for April 8-14, 2019.

The eco-friendly model comes in a compact, lightweight package and is equipped with the latest generation of fully sealed AC electric drive motors. This new model will be available globally in Q3 2019.
