IPAF Shares Strategies for VR Simulators to Enhance Operator Training

The International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) released a comprehensive eXtended Reality (XR) strategy paper outlining how technologies including virtual reality (VR) and MEWP simulators can enhance, as opposed to replace, operator training.

In 2018, IPAF led an industry-wide consultation to produce a policy document on how VR systems can be effectively and safely used to train MEWP operators, leading to its ground-breaking set of recommendations.

JCB North America Honors Employee Retiring After 60 Years of Service

JCB North America bid farewell to an employee who worked for the manufacturer for six decades with a career spanning three countries and 15 different job titles. 

Company officials said John Carter was a happy-natured journeyman who influenced thousands of colleagues.   

Speaking at a farewell ceremony at the company’s headquarters in Pooler, Georgia, JCB North America President and CEO Richard Fox-Marrs commented on Carter’s career. 

TVH Promotes VP to President Role

TVH in the Americas (TVH) announced Dirk von Holt has been named its new president, effective Jan. 1, 2019.

As the vice president of sales and marketing, von Holt, who joined the company in 2005, was instrumental in streamlining TVH’s organizational processes and setting up a network of distribution centers in order to ensure a positive customer experience.  In his new role, he will continue to provide strategic leadership and help to create a structure for TVH’s future growth and development.

Universal Equipment President Alastair Robertson Dies

Longtime MEWP industry veteran and advocate Alastair Robertson, president of Universal Equipment in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, died Jan. 30, 2019. He was 69.

Robertson, who was born Oct. 28, 1949, started in the MEWP industry in 1981 as a sales manager for Simon Aerials, which was subsequently purchased by Terex, followed by roles at Economy Engineering (acquired by Snorkel), Snorkel, Grove Manlift, and Skyjack. He then worked at S and R Equipment, JLG’s dealer in Chicago, from 1991 to 1995.

Terex Opens New Washington Service Center

Terex relocated its Service Center in Seattle, opening a new location approximately 15 miles southeast in Kent, Washington.

The new Service Center offers upgraded service and inspection capabilities and supports a broader market of equipment owners. 

“We are excited about this new site as it is centrally located and provides easy access from both Seattle and Tacoma,” said Jerry Kienast, regional operations manager. “These two markets are among the top five cities in Washington state.”
