At a dinner held in their honor, Lift and Access magazine celebrated the winners of the 2018 Leadership in Lifting Equipment and Aerial Platforms (LLEAP) awards and distributed the trophies for the two top-ranked innovative products in five categories on Feb. 17 to kick off the ARA Show in Anaheim, California.

Genie GS-1330m scissor lift

Genie unveiled the compact GS-1330m scissor lift along with other new products and technologies at the 2019 ARA Show in Anaheim, California.

The GS-1330m scissor lift offers a maximum platform height of 12.8 ft., a maximum working height of 18.8 ft., a two-person, 500-lb. capacity, and weighs only 1,950 lbs.

The company also added the Lift Tools Access Deck for Z articulating booms, S telescopic booms, and GS-1930 scissor lifts, providing operators with a secondary surface to work from.

IPAF Shares Strategies for VR Simulators to Enhance Operator Training

The International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) released a comprehensive eXtended Reality (XR) strategy paper outlining how technologies including virtual reality (VR) and MEWP simulators can enhance, as opposed to replace, operator training.

In 2018, IPAF led an industry-wide consultation to produce a policy document on how VR systems can be effectively and safely used to train MEWP operators, leading to its ground-breaking set of recommendations.

Terex Opens New Washington Service Center

Terex relocated its Service Center in Seattle, opening a new location approximately 15 miles southeast in Kent, Washington.

The new Service Center offers upgraded service and inspection capabilities and supports a broader market of equipment owners. 

“We are excited about this new site as it is centrally located and provides easy access from both Seattle and Tacoma,” said Jerry Kienast, regional operations manager. “These two markets are among the top five cities in Washington state.”

Hiab Introduces New Crane Technologies at World of Concrete 2019

Hiab, part of Cargotec, launched new crane technologies for the U.S. market at World of Concrete, held Jan. 21-25, 2019, in Las Vegas.

The new technologies are designed to make crane operation safer and more efficient, including Crane Tip Control (CTC), Variable Stability Logic Plus (VSL+), Semi Automatic Folding (SAF), and the connected service, HiConnect.

Genie Updates Training Courses to Meet New ANSI A92 Standards

Genie updated its operator training programs to meet the requirements in the new ANSI A92 standards, which will take effect Dec. 10, 2019.

The programs include:

  • Genie Lift Pro Online Operator Training Program
  • Genie Lift Pro Train the Trainer courses
  • Genie Lift Pro classroom-based operator training courses

The courses will comply with the new ANSI A92.22 standards for Safe Use and ANSI A92.24 standards for Training.

Report: Wearable Technology Important in Monitoring Worker Fatigue on Jobsite

The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) Foundation released a fatigue research report that shows the value of wearable technology on the jobsite to monitor the fatigue levels of workers in order to reduce injuries and increase productivity.

The three-year study was led by Dr. Lora Cavuoto at the University at Buffalo and Dr. Fadel Megahed at the Farmer School of Business at Miami University of Ohio. The project also involved researchers from Auburn University and the University of Dayton.
