Authorities Investigate Crane Operator Death at Locomotive Plant

Federal OSHA and local police are investigating the death of a crane operator who was crushed at a manufacturing plant. The 46-year-old crane operator was using a handheld remote control to operate the crane, which was hoisting a locomotive alternator frame weighing several tons.

“He was setting it down, and for whatever reason, it fell over and crushed him,” the county coroner said. The operator’s autopsy revealed the man died of massive blunt-force trauma suffered in the accident. Authorities have yet to determine what caused the locomotive frame to fall.
