Caterpillar Unveils New TH255C Compact Telehandler | Construction News

Caterpillar has unveiled its versatile new TH255C compact telehandler.

The Cat TH255C has a rated lifting capacity of 5,500 pounds, a maximum lifting height of 18’4”, accepts a wide range of tools, and can work in a wide range of applications.

The powerful yet compact new telehandler measures just 71.5 in. wide, 74.8 in. high over the cab, and weighs 11,000 lbs. It can lift 3,000 lbs. to its 18’4” maximum height and can also lift 1,700 lbs. at its 10'11" maximum forward reach.

At the center of the TH255C is a new engine available in either a U.S. EPA Tier 4-Final version or in a U.S. EPA Tier 3 version for less-regulated regions. The new Cat compact telehandler also features a more powerful hydrostatic drive system for stronger travel in tough terrain.

The TH255C’s new fuel-efficient, 2.9-liter engine is rated at 74 hp and has a new cooling package with a hydraulically driven variable-speed fan. Variable-speed fan reversing is optional. The engine pod has been redesigned to accommodate the new engine, including a new exhaust mounting system and a low-profile hood that provides excellent visibility to the right of the machine.

A variable-displacement piston pump and a variable-displacement piston motor in the hydrostatic transmission provide smooth power to the wheels without the operator changing gears. Four-wheel drive and three-mode steering give the control for precise placement of loads. An electronic throttle pedal provides instant engine response.

The TH255C’s axles have larger final-reduction hubs and new, larger wheel assemblies that use eight lug bolts. The new axles add durability and reliability, as do the addition of boom-section brushes. Additional new features include a redesigned electrical harness and roof-mounted air-conditioning system for models so equipped.

A new instrument cluster and dash panel allow the operator to monitor machine performance and a glance. The intuitive control layout—including a single, electro-hydraulic joystick—promotes operator comfort, efficiency, and safety. Properly placed handholds and steps ensure safe and comfortably entry and exiting of the cab.

For added versatility, the TH255C is fitted with a standard universal quick coupler that is compatible with many Cat skid steer loader work tools. The hydraulic system has a maximum flow of 19.1 gpm, and a relief pressure of 3,500 psi.

To help lower overall cost of ownership, the TH255C is designed for easy serviceability, with all routine service points accessible from ground level and daily maintenance limited to fluid-level checks and a walk-around inspection.
