The Center for Construction Research & Training Releases Fifth Edition of Construction Chart Book | Construction News

The Center for Construction Research and Training has released the fifth edition of The Construction Chart Book: The U.S. Construction Industry and Its Workers. The 142-page book presents the most complete data available on all facets of the U.S. construction industry: economic, demographic, employment/income, education/training, and safety and health issues. This fifth edition covers 55 topic pages, five more than the previous version, with descriptive text on one page and charts on the opposite page.

Readers will also see more charts to illustrate the data, as well as topics not covered in previous editions, such as green construction (LEED certified projects -- square feet by region, per capita, by state; the percentage of green employment by industry, construction sub sector, and trade), details of unemployment and re-employment rates of displaced construction workers, exposures to work- related hazards (working at heights, noise, MSDs and whole-body vibration) among construction trades, and details on illnesses, injuries and fatalities by trade. A new section examines OSHA inspections, violations and citations.

Published once every five years using public and private data sources, The Construction Chart Book is a go-to resource for thousands of construction professionals and safety & health consultants, trainers, researchers and students.

“We take great pride in all of our research, but this book holds a special place within CPWR,” said Pete Stafford, executive director of CPWR. “Since we began publishing this book in 1997, the Chart Book has been cited frequently in peer-reviewed publications and elsewhere. We see its contents appear in many forms – news articles, presentations at conferences, data for safety professionals driving home a point, and as a resource for labor-management organizations.”
