Cianbro Founding Brother Dies

Ival R. “Bud” Cianchette, one of the founding brothers of Cianbro, Pittsfield, Me., died last week at the age of 83, on the same day workers at the company’s Eastern Manufacturing Facility in Brewer, Me., celebrated the company's 60th birthday. Cianchette and his brothers started Cianchette Brothers, Inc., the forerunner of today’s Cianbro.

Cianchette served as Cianbro’s president, chairman and then chairman emeritus from 1962 until his passing. Also active in politics, he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 2004, alongside his son Peter, who ran for governor of Maine in 2002.

Peter Vigue, chairman and CEO of Cianbro, say Cianchette will be remembered for his unique and engaging leadership. “You wanted, in military terms, to take the hill for Bud Cianchette because of the expectations that were set. And at the same time, he humbled himself in such a way that he didn't raise himself above those around him.”
