Crane Boom Crashes Into School Bus

Hillsboro, Ore., September 2012—A lattice-boom crane was being transported on a tractor-trailer truck when its upperworks swung, slashing the boom tip into the left front corner of a school bus. The impact smashed the front of the bus and tipped it up onto its right-side wheels. The bus had just dropped students and was empty except for the driver, who was taken to a hospital with shoulder and neck pain. The truck carrying the crane was making a right turn at an intersection when the accident happened. The bus was stopped, waiting to make a left turn from the street the truck was turning onto. As the truck turned around the corner, the crane's upperworks swung and its boom smashed into the bus. The accident closed the road for more than two hours. Police have not issued any citations, so far, but the crash remains under investigation. – www.oregonlive.com
