EUFMC 2020 to Feature Special Speakers, Events

The 67th annual Electric Utility Fleet Managers Conference (EUFMC), held May 31 - June 3, 2020 at the Williamsburg Lodge and Conference Center in Williamsburg, Virginia, will feature several special events.

John Foley, a former lead solo pilot in the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels and the founder and CEO of John Foley Inc. and CenterPoint Companies, will share his insights on the How of High Performance as EUFMC’s featured dinner speaker. Along with video footage from flights and thrilling stories about flying inches apart at 500 MPH, Foley will reveal practical strategies used by elite groups to create a culture of excellence and become models of teamwork and achievement.

As a Blue Angels pilot, Foley learned to perform consistently as part of a close-knit team in a high-stakes environment. From that experience, he offers valuable lessons about the importance of preparation and communication as well as commitment, discipline, and trust. Foley also provides tools for identifying and closing performance gaps on the journey to continual improvement.

Jim Abbott, a former Major League Baseball pitcher for 10 seasons on four different teams, will take part in the EUFMC general session. Born with only one hand, Abbott will share how he was able to overcome perceived limitations and achieve his dream. Abbott is the first baseball player to win the Sullivan Award as the nation's outstanding amateur athlete, and the winner of the U.S. Baseball Federation's Golden Spikes award as the best amateur player in the country.

As a player on Team USA, Abbott became the first American pitcher in 25 years to beat a Cuban team on Cuban soil, and in the 1988 Olympics, he was the winning pitcher in a game over Japan that brought the U.S. its first gold medal in baseball. His most famous career highpoint is throwing a no-hitter for the New York Yankees.

The Spazmatics, a band consisting of multiple cast members that plays cover songs from the 1980s, will entertain EUFMC attendees at a special concert. Founded in 1983, the San Francisco area-based group blends sounds, styles, and dance steps with a creative flair that will provide an evening of pure energy and entertainment.
