‘Start Us Up' Campaign Calls Industry to Action

In addition to hosting rallies across the country, the Start Us Up USA! campaign continues its call for industry action. The Start Us Up USA! campaign, a joint venture of the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) and Associated Equipment Distributors (AED), wants to convince the Senate and the Administration to begin work on a multi-year reauthorization of the highway bill.

According to a campaign statement, the most recent data indicates that unemployment in the construction industry is 17.1 percent. “Passing a multi-year reauthorization of the highway bill is the most important thing lawmakers could do to help the construction industry see real, sustainable economic growth,” the statement said. “However, the Senate and White House want to delay action on this important bill for 18 months. This is unacceptable!”

The campaign is calling for workers throughout the construction industry to take action. People are urged to visit the campaign website to sign a petition, write letters to Congress, and send letters to the editors of local papers calling for a highway bill. Learn how to take action at the Start Us Up! campaign website.
