Pilosio Specially Designs 70% of Its Scaffolding and Formwork for Job in South Africa

Pilosio has received an order from South African-based construction company, CMC of Ravenna, for around $2 million of its scaffolding and formwork products. The products will be utilized in Durban in the KwaZulu-Natal province, for construction of a motorway junction, called the N2-M41 Mount Edgecombe Interchange.

Pilosio’s products, 70% of which will be tailor-made specifically for this job, will assist in the construction of two imposing viaducts created with the casting system, thereby avoiding any interference with the traffic below; the products will be required for the constructions of the piles, pier caps, and base of the roadway. The dimensions will be 85.3'x3106.96' and 59' x 1453.41'. Once completed, the first viaduct will be the longest in the country.

Pilosio will supply 200 square meters of P300 formwork for foundations and trusses, and 500 square meters of special steel formwork divided into five sets for the construction of the viaducts' pile shafts. An additional 350 square meters of special steel formwork will be divided into three sets for the construction of the pier caps, along with two sets of Maximix model formwork.  The specially-designed Omnimode shoring system  for the creation of the suspended work platforms will be used in the installation phase of the roadway ashlars.

Pilosio’s technical office designed a formwork system for the piles that could be adapted to two different sizes and for the roadways of the viaducts, optimized for the use of installation technology with buttresses. The motorway interchange to be constructed by CMC will also include junction works such as slip roads and underpasses that will mostly be constructed with Pilosio’s equipment.
