Pacific Systems Solutions Latest HookCam Model Aims to Increase Crane Operator Safety | Construction News

Pacific Systems Solutions new HookCam Generation Five camera system attaches directly to the hook block of a crane, wirelessly transmitting a video stream to the operator in the cabin. It provides operators a line view from their hook’s perspective, eliminating blind spots, increasing safety and efficiency for crane operators and riggers.

The HookCam was created out of the need for crane operators to see in the blind and better communicate with the rigger. The HookCam also allows the operator to see the pace and swing of the load and provides the situational awareness necessary to reduce potential accidents and property damage.

The detailed view provided by the camera on the hook helps to eliminate accidents and decreases pick time by up to 38%. The HookCam improves communication by empowering the operator with the ability to see the rigger and the load. With the HookCam, the operator can clearly see the personnel in the area and has a detailed view of the site and its environment. Operators can view the load for themselves to confirm the balance and load security, allowing them to verify rigging and quickly respond to critical situations.

New features on of the Generation Five system include an adaptable mounting system, a more efficient battery, solar charging, and options for black box recording.

“When we undertook the Generation Five model it began as a facelift,” explains CEO David Catanzaro.  “After a decade of research and development, we concluded with much more.  The new design is portable and lighter weight, has a lower profile and features an easy to read display.  The new mounting system allows for quick and easy installation and is adaptable for a variety of cranes.”

The new HookCam is available Aug. 15, 2013 and will be showcased at the 2014 ConExpo in Las Vegas.
