Progressive Waste Solutions Ltd., the third largest non-hazardous solid waste solutions provider in North America, has instituted a battery maintenance management program (BMMP) created by PulseTech Products Corp. Continuing its commitment to sustainability, Progressive Waste Solutions implementation of the BMMP will improve both the performance and life extension of their waste truck fleet batteries while minimizing the impact of dead batteries on the environment.
According to PulseTech Products, Progress Waste Solutions has purchased multiple diagnostic, corrective and preventative battery toolkits to use on fleets servicing commercial, industrial, municipal and residential customers in 13 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. Each toolkit contains a PowerPulse 12-volt battery maintenance system for installation on Progressive Waste Solutions’ trucks and a 390PT battery tester, XCR 12-volt battery recovery charger and desulfator, and PRO-12-RP 12 station maintenance system for use in the vehicle maintenance shops.
- The PowerPulse ensures peak battery performance on single 12-volt lead-acid batteries by eliminating the main cause of lead-acid battery problems and failure, sulfation buildup on battery plates. PulseTech’s patented Pulse Technology enables batteries to accept, store and release maximum power when needed and extends battery life up to 5 times.
- The 390PT uses a patented single load, dynamic resistance technology to completely analyze all 6V and 12V lead-acid batteries and charging systems quickly, safely and accurately.
- The XCR is a 16-amp shop charger that recovers any type of 12V lead-acid battery anywhere in the world including heavily discharged and sulfated batteries thought to be dead or useless. It is ideal for larger 12V batteries including group 27, 31, 4-D and 8-D. The XCR’s unique design allows it to be operated both in the shop on batteries that have been removed from equipment and on batteries still installed allowing batteries to be quickly put back in service.
- The PRO-12-RP keeps as many as twelve 12V lead-acid batteries (VRLA, AGM and flooded cell) at peak charge levels while they stay on the shelf or rack waiting to be installed. New or used batteries that sit unused are subject to a naturally occurring buildup of lead sulfate deposits that reduce the battery’s ability to accept, store and release energy. The PRO-12-RP prevents this natural discharge and lead sulfate buildup.
Progressive Waste Solutions has already experienced impressive results with every maintenance shop reporting a high percentage of recovered batteries. These batteries would otherwise have been removed for disposal and replaced thus helping keep additional toxic material out of the environment.
