Caterpillar Inc. has announced a new workforce development commitment in Texas, investing up to $5 million to support training for advanced manufacturing and industry technician careers.
The initiative is part of the company's five-year, $100 million Building the Future Workforce Initiative and is intended to prepare both current and future workers for manufacturing jobs.
According to Caterpillar, the funding will support efforts to reduce financial barriers to workforce training, define future workforce skills and strengthen connections between students and manufacturing careers.
"Caterpillar believes building a strong workforce starts with investing in people and helping them develop the skills needed to be successful," said Christy Pambianchi, Caterpillar's chief human resources officer. "Texas is a manufacturing powerhouse and a vital hub for innovation. Through this pledge, we're capitalizing on those strengths and preparing Texans for the jobs of today and the advanced technology and manufacturing careers of tomorrow."
Texas was selected because of Caterpillar's established operations in the state. The company has 6,630 employees across its Irving headquarters and 17 facilities, including its engine manufacturing facility in Seguin.
The workforce initiative will be developed in partnership with Texas State Technical College, the Manufacturing Institute and local organizations including the Seguin Economic Development Corporation.
The Texas investment represents the second state launch under Caterpillar's Building the Future Workforce Initiative, which focuses on developing skilled workers for advanced manufacturing and industrial careers.
