MPS Acquires HKX to Enter Equipment Market

Multi Parts Solutions (MPS) has acquired HKX Inc., a Monroe, Washington-based manufacturer of auxiliary hydraulic kits, and control-system solutions for excavators and other heavy equipment.

The transaction moves MPS into the construction equipment market and makes HKX its third operating division. MPS’ other divisions are ACC Heavy Duty, formerly American Chrome Co., which serves the commercial vehicle market, and MPS Automotive, which serves the automotive aftermarket. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

HKX has more than three decades of experience in hydraulic systems, controls integration and application engineering. Since 1993, the company has developed install-ready hydraulic kits that allow heavy equipment to operate attachments including breakers, thumbs, shears, and rotating tools.

The company also specializes in integrating controls with equipment electronics. Its capabilities include working with electro-hydraulic and CAN-based systems to add or augment machine controls.

Following the acquisition, HKX will continue operating from its existing Monroe facility. The company’s leadership team will remain in place, with Robert Burnett continuing as vice president and general manager.

MPS brings engineering, sourcing, testing, manufacturing, and quality capabilities to the combined organization, as well as its proprietary Sigma development process. HKX contributes its application engineering knowledge, controls integration expertise, and dealer network.

HKX’s Monroe facility includes in-house fabrication, CNC tube bending, kitting, and application engineering support. According to MPS, the acquisition provides the company with additional resources for product development and expands its ability to work with equipment manufacturers and dealer groups on specialized applications and attachment integration.

The acquisition also adds hydraulic and controls expertise to MPS that can be applied across markets beyond construction equipment.
