PALFINGER and ICON have announced a technology collaboration focused on integrating large-scale robotics with construction and digital manufacturing.

The companies said the partnership combines PALFINGER’s lifting and system integration expertise with ICON’s robotic construction printing technology.

PALFINGER will provide lifting solutions, modular platforms and large-scale robotic capabilities as part of ICON’s 3D printing system development. The collaboration aims to explore how automated construction technologies could improve efficiency and safety in building projects.

A central component of the collaboration is the Titan robotic system. Titan integrates PALFINGER Special Lifting Solutions to support positioning, stability and scalability for robotic printing operations.

The system is capable of printing structures up to 27 feet tall and supporting multi-level construction. It is designed for continuous operation and incorporates modular components, stabilizers and crawler systems.

“This partnership with ICON demonstrates how PALFINGER is systematically expanding its capabilities beyond traditional applications,” said Alexander Susanek, COO of PALFINGER. “By combining our expertise in large-size lifting and handling systems with ICON’s pioneering 3D printing technology, we are opening up new industrial applications and strengthening our position in the field of large-size robots and automation.”

According to the companies, prototypes of the Titan system have already been tested. The system is designed to enable faster construction timelines and reduce building costs compared with conventional methods.

“Innovation at PALFINGER means applying our engineering DNA to entirely new use cases,” said Susanek. “By transferring our expertise in - lifting solutions, automation and system integration into robotic 3D printing, we are actively shaping the future of industrial construction. Partnerships like this allow us to turn innovation into scalable, real-world solutions.”

The collaboration also aligns with PALFINGER’s strategy to expand large-scale robotic technologies and digital manufacturing capabilities while leveraging ICON’s experience in robotic construction.
