United Rentals’ VP of Health, Safety, Environment & Sustainability Slated to Headline SAF-T Conference

Speakers continue to line up to present at Maximum Capacity Media’s live powered access-focused SAF-T Conference. The one-day event will take place in conjunction with the Scaffold & Access Industry Association’s Annual Convention on July 24 in Nashville, Tenn. Headlining the conference is Jim Dorris, CSP, Vice President - Health, Safety, Environment & Sustainability for United Rentals Inc., the largest equipment rental company in the world.

"Safety is a core value at United Rentals, and it plays a major role in supporting our mission of deploying the best people, equipment, and solutions to enable our customers to safely build a better and stronger future,” Dorris says, who recently accepted a seat on the SAIA/OSHA Alliance team. “The upcoming SAF-T conference in Nashville will provide an excellent forum for our collective to work together to further promote safety within our industries."

Dorris has more than 13 years of experience leading HSE and related functions at various companies. AT the SAF-T Conference, he will discuss the topic of “Leading Through Innovative Safety Technology,” in which he will review why it is a good business practice to invest in technology and thought-process advancements. This investment not only contributes to a safer work environment, but it also improves costs, efficiency, and transparency in the industry and communities where rental companies operate.

Dorris’ presentation is expected to set the tone for the day’s event, which will serves as a forum for stakeholders in the access industry, including OEMs, rental companies, training organizations, and end users to examine safety, training, and technological progression in the powered access industry.

A representative from United Rentals also will be moderating a roundtable discussion entitled “Online Training Evolution, Opportunities, and Concerns, Plus Familiarization: Is it Making Things Safer or Just Reducing Service Calls.”

Guy Ramsey, President of event organizer Maximum Capacity Media, is pleased to have Dorris involved. “United Rentals is the world’s largest supplier of powered access equipment, and it is good to see them taking a more proactive leadership role in this industry,” he said. “Jim has been instrumental in planning the event, and his guidance has added great value to the program.”

Other presentations slated for the SAF-T Conference include the impact of fall prevention campaigns, working at height from a contractor’s perspective, near-miss reporting and its influence on a company’s safety culture, and safe movement of powered access equipment on jobsites.

Key supporters of the SAF-T Conference include Skyjack, United Rentals, Genie, Blue Sky Solutions, JLG, MEC, IPAF, and Serious: Labs.
