When the 73rd annual EUFMC gets underway, a record number of attendees are expected to take part in the industry’s premiere event for utility fleets.

In 2025, EUFMC attendees included 177 fleet representatives from 107 investor-owned utilities, 34 utility contractors, 10 utility cooperatives, 12 municipal operations and 14 other fleets that operate, manage and maintain utility equipment. Included were 62 new fleet attendees from four new companies. Joining the fleets were 350 supplier representatives from 97 companies.

“Record attendance at EUFMC last year was driven by the value that the conference educational program, equipment events, networking opportunities and special activities continue to offer fleets and suppliers,” said EUFMC President Greg Loew, Avista Utilities. “In 2026, that tradition will continue, and we look forward to welcoming fleet professionals and suppliers to Williamsburg.”

Educational Value

At its core, EUFMC is an educational event focused on providing information on the design, procurement, application, operation, management and maintenance of utility equipment used by fleets. The invitation-only conference is a forum for fleet professionals to exchange information, discuss mutual challenges and develop best practices. Throughout the event, fleet representatives interact with manufacturers and suppliers of vehicles, equipment, products and services for utility fleet operations.

Driving Safety, Sustainability & Technical Expertise, the conference General Session, features presentations by fleet executives, manufacturers and industry experts. Topics on the agenda (subject to change) will include:

Keynote Address: Peter Waldrab, vice president safety and technical training at LG&E and KU, will lead off the EUFMC General Session with a presentation titled From the Grid to the Garage: How Industry Disruption Is Reshaping Utility Fleets. Waldrab will cover how challenges from explosive load growth to more volatile and destructive weather, heightened customer affordability concerns and a rapidly shifting regulatory landscape are transforming how utilities equip the people who build, maintain and restore the grid.

“This keynote will explore how challenges translate directly into vehicle fleet strategy,” Waldrab said. “As utilities balance reliability, cost, safety and sustainability, fleet leaders are being asked to rethink long-standing assumptions about vehicle mix, infrastructure and lifecycle management. From ICE to EV to hybrid, from mobile power to storm response readiness, from traditional maintenance models to data-driven fleet management, fleets need to be an enabling extension of grid strategy.”

Waldrab is a 20-year veteran of utility industry leadership roles across electric transmission and distribution operations. Prior to joining LG&E and KU, he worked for PPL in leadership roles supporting development and implementation of the utility’s distribution smart grid system, and in the digital transformation of field work.

Safety: Philip’s Legacy...what legacy are you leaving? — the Dangers of Distracted, Impaired & Unsafe Driving will be the focus of a presentation by Mike Lutzenkirchen, executive director of the Lutzie 43 Foundation.

During the safety presentation, Lutzenkirchen will detail the Lutzie 43 Foundation’s 43 Key Seconds to Educate and Reinforce Safe Driving Behaviors. Companies can take advantage of the customizable program to help make sure employees arrive to work each day and return home again safely. Each EUFMC attendee will receive the Lutzie 43 Foundation 43 Key Seconds Essential Package.

The Lutzie 43 Foundation, with a mission to end distracted, impaired and unsafe driving, was established in memory of Philip Lutzenkirchen, shortly after his death in 2014 at the age of 23. The former Auburn University student-athlete and star football player was killed in a single-vehicle crash. Mike Lutzenkirchen, Philip’s father, founded the foundation to encourage safe driving by using Philip’s life and legacy to inspire change.

Presenters and panelists at the EUFMC General Session agenda will also address these topics:

  • Driving Efficiency and Innovation: Leveraging Tools, Resources, and AI for Smarter Processes
  • ANSI Update: The latest standards and why staying informed is critical to safety
  • Future Proofing the Fleet Garage: Emerging Technologies & Best Practices in Workplace Safety
  • Through the Camera Lens: The Future of Fleet Safety
  • Workforce Planning in Motion: Navigating Staffing Challenges in Fleet Operations
  • Worksite Risk Mitigation & Hazard Awareness: Smarter Job Hazard Reviews with AI Support
  • State of the Industry: Trends Driving Changes in OEM Product Lineups
  • Driving Spec Modernization Through Fleet–Manufacturer Collaboration
  • Strategic Fleet Procurement: Tackling Rising Costs and Future Planning
  • Roundtables where fleet representatives and suppliers find solutions to mutual challenges.

EUFMC equipment events also serve as educational forums. In 2025, 45 companies detailed their vehicles and equipment during the Drive-Thru Demonstration, and the conference Equipment Show included 90 exhibits of products and services for utility fleet operations.
