Aichi to Build U.S. Manufacturing Plant

Japanese aerial work platform manufacturer Aichi Corp. plans to break ground on a U.S. manufacturing facility in 2008. The company, which is 51 percent owned by Toyota, will most likely build its facility close to other Toyota plants. The factory will produce all models of self-propelled and truck-mounted aerial lifts. Additionally, Aichi Corp. plans to bring on four times as many sales and support personnel as it currently employs at Aichi USA, Baltimore, Md.

According to Alan Dotts, general manager of Aichi USA, Aichi plans to introduce 10 new models of aerial work platforms in North America in 2008 prior to building the manufacturing plant. This includes rubber-tire telescopic and articulating boom lifts and rubber-tire scissor lifts.
