 Applied Measurements’ DDEN Load Cell Series Designed for Harsh Environments

Approached by a customer to weigh in harsh environments including submersion in water or water spray, sensor and transducer manufacturer Applied Measurements Ltd. of Reading, UK, was able to supply an off-the-shelf solution in the form of their DDEN series of load cells. Designed for the measurement of tensile or compressive forces in underwater locations of up to a 33-foot depth, the DDEN loadcell is particularly suitable for outdoor underhook weighing, towing/mooring applications, and safe-load monitoring in the most extreme environments.  Constructed from stainless steel and protected internally with an inert waterproof gel, the electrical termination is a tough IP68 multi-core cable that connects through an IP68 cable gland, to complete to fully submersible sealing, according to the manufacturer.

The DDEN series of load cells comes with integral male threads for in-line mounting. This compact design means that the dimensions of the standard product remain the same through the range with an outside diameter of just 1.75 inches, and enables it to be mounted in a wide variety of applications where conventional load cells will not fit.

The DDEN, as with all other Applied Measurements sensors, can be supplied complete with control electronics and calibrated as a system. A version fitted with an integral amplifier, designated the DDENA, is also available to provide a conditioned voltage or current output signal.

Wireless versions are also available using environmentally sealed handheld displays, whereby all weighing functions can be controlled remotely.  These systems can also be retrofitted into standard Crosby and Green Pin style schackles to provide an economical and robust weighing solution. As with all sensors from Applied Measurements Ltd, a 3-year manufacturing warranty is standard.
