Ashley Sling Introduces New High-Performance Round Sling

Ashley Sling Inc. has introduced a new high-performance round sling. Comprised of a custom blend of HMPE and Aramid fibers, the Hybrid Power-Z round sling offers end users visual inspection capabilities in a high-performance sling. Made with a clear cover that can be inspected, it's a lighter-weight product, according to the company.

“There's a big difference between weight ratios by comparison to other synthetic and steel slings on the market,” said Edd Mabe, branch manager for Ashley Sling in Knoxville, Tenn. “A 100,000-pound sling weighs 1.7 pounds per foot. The average weight of the equivalent wire rope sling would be 12 pounds per foot. That's about an 85-percent reduction in weight.”

The sling's breathable cover is designed to allow the inner core yarns to dry more quickly, regaining strength lost from moisture and improving resistance to mildew and rotting, according to product literature.

The sling has been in use for some time now, but it has seen heavy use this year. “It's been in the market. We had not made it public until just recently. We've been going through the standardization process, developing specifications and doing testing,” Mabe said.

For now, the polyester, snag-resistant sling will be sold with the clear cover, he said, but if customers request it be woven into a dark sleeve, Ashley will consider it. “For the most part, it's going to be inside the clear sleeve, unless otherwise requested.”
