Capital Safety Creates Next Generation Harness

Capital Safety, Red Wing, Minn., has launched its next generation harness: the ExoFit NEX. Revolutionary technology offers users of the ExoFit NEX full-body harness a new level of comfort, function and durability, according to the company.

The ExoFit NEX provides the highest level of safety and comfort with technologically advanced hardware, soft yet durable anti-absorbent webbing, strategically placed padding, and protective elements that prolong the service life of the harness.

“The original ExoFit, the industry’s first premium comfort harness, changed workers’ attitudes about fall protection,” said Nate Bohmbach, product manager for soft goods with Capital Safety. “With the ExoFit NEX, we’re taking that to the next level. We’re turning the harness into a piece of equipment that workers will want to wear and that’s long-lasting. So we’re catering not only to the end user, but to the safety director and purchasing department as well.”

The hardware allows for a one-time adjustment that stays in place throughout the day and improves safety by ensuring a snug fit. The Duo-Lok quick-connect buckles now include a locking mechanism to eliminate slippage and constant readjustment. Straps won’t budge, even with movement and the weight of tool belts. The Revolver ratcheting torso adjustor features a winding adjustment that spools the webbing as the user adjusts the harness for a proper fit. The adjustor locks into place and holds the adjustment, preventing slippage due to movement and added weight. It also eliminates excess webbing that can be hazardous near moving parts. Additional hardware includes breakaway molded lanyard keepers that allow easy connection of any size snap hook and breaks away to help prevent snagging and tripping.

The design of the Tech-Lite D-rings and buckles on the ExoFit NEX is unique to the fall protection industry. The hardware is constructed of aluminum, an alloy commonly used in military and aerospace applications that offers a higher level of security. By reducing the overall weight of the harness, the aluminum hardware increases comfort.

The ExoFit NEX is constructed with Repel Technology Webbing, providing extreme durability with up to five times more abrasion resistance and water repellence than previous generations of harnesses. The long-lasting webbing allows the harness to stay in service longer even in harsh environments, while the water-repellence prevents absorption of water, keeping the harness lightweight and comfortable.

Elements that protect the webbing and padding extend the life of the harness, while keeping the worker comfortable, productive and safe. Hybrid padding ensures the right balance of comfort and durability. This lightweight, breathable padding wicks away moisture, keeping the worker cool and dry. The padding is strategically located on the shoulders, back, hips and legs. For added durability, protective caps cover the shoulder and back padding to prevent abrasion from carrying equipment and supplies. A dorsal cover with a thermal plastic frame protects webbing in the dorsal area that is subject to abrasion from lanyards, concrete forms, tower walls and other jobsite hazards. The padded belt offers rigid belt loops to reduce abrasion as well as to protect webbing and stitching from the stress of tool pouches, prolonging the life of the product. The rigid loops also prevent equipment pouches from sagging and offer plenty of room for a variety of tool pouch sizes.

The chest platform on the ExoFit NEX places the labels and i-Safe RFID tag behind a Velcro cover to protect the labels and provide easy access. A covered pocket with elastic sides is conveniently placed on the front of the chest strap to hold workplace or personal items such as a cellular phone.

Additional features include reflective material throughout the harness that increases worker safety in low visibility environments, a stand-up dorsal D-ring to easily secure a connector, and integrated suspension trauma straps for post fall-arrest comfort.

The DBI-SALA ExoFit NEX meets all applicable industry standards, including OSHA, ANSI, CSA and CE.
