Cargotec launches a new streamlined Kalmar reachstacker

Cargotec, Monroe, N.J., has added to its range of Kalmar reachstackers with the Kalmar DRF420-450L, designed to provide flexible container handling. This reachstacker model has performance and functions suitable for terminals with medium capacity and average operational requirements. Mikael Persson, vice president, reachstackers and empty container handlers at Cargotec, sees that as containerization continues, new customers and new markets are opening up for container handling equipment. “Some of our new customers do not have the operational requirements that we offer with our current models, and some new applications will not need heavy and intensive usage of their machine,” says Persson.

“We will ensure that we can meet this growing need for cost-effective, productive and flexible container handling,” he continues. “That’s why we present the Kalmar DRF L reachstacker – a streamlined machine [whose] performance and functions have been specially developed for the day-to-day reality at terminals that form part of the continental distribution chain.”

The new model has an “excellent” level of total cost of ownership, in that it offers low energy consumption and lower costs associated maintenance, Persson explains, adding that Kalmar reachstackers are globally supported by Cargotec’s service and original Kalmar spare parts. “Due to recent cross-training of Hiab and Kalmar service engineers, the service network has grown wider,” he says.

The Kalmar DRF L reachstacker has a lifting capacity of up to 50 tons in first, 33 tons in the second and 16 ton in the third row of containers. It can lift containers to five high and the container can be picked or dropped-off by the machine approaching from any angle <90 degrees.
