Crane Operator Injured by Falling Limb

Dracut, Mass., May 2012—A tree care worker who was operating a crane suffered a large gash to his head when a large limb knocked him out of the operator’s seat and head-first onto the truck bed about 10 feet below. The injured worker was operating a grapple-equipped crane that was lowering cut-off parts of a large oak tree when the 15- to 20-foot long, top-heavy piece of tree came free of the grapple and slammed into him. He was taken to a hospital conscious and alert but with a bloody gash on his head. A federal safety inspector was called to the scene after the accident. – boston.cbslocal.com
