Customers Benefit from Raymond's New Training Program

Service technicians for Raymond Corp., Greene, N.Y., and its authorized sales and service centers, are now trained through Raymond’s exclusive technician development program, providing technicians with practical application training designed to increase productivity and uptime for the companies whose lift truck fleets they service. "Proper technician training begins with Raymond’s rigorous course manager training—an important component of the technician development program," said Scott Holcombe, director of training and certified course manager for Carolina Handling, LLC, Piedmont, S.C.

"Course managers are thoroughly trained to help guide technicians through the development program and are equipped with the tools to tailor training to an individual technician's learning style."

The program was designed and developed with a team of service managers and sales and service centre trainers. The program includes three workshops: technical primer, to focus on foundational knowledge and skills; scheduled maintenance, to meet ongoing, regular maintenance procedures required for specific trucks; and troubleshooting and repair, to perform diagnostics and repairs.

Each level uses an approach that allows participants to learn at their own pace through hands-on exercises, videos, reading and small group activities.  At the end of each level, technicians must pass a test to receive certification and move on to the next level.

"The program gave me a better understanding of the mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems on a Raymond lift truck," said Sean Smedick, field service technician, Associated Integrated Supply Chain Solutions, Addison, Ill.  "Through one-on-one and hands-on training, I am prepared to work on all of Raymond’s products, which makes troubleshooting easier and enables me to complete service calls more quickly."
