Delta-Q Expands Family of On-Board Battery Chargers for Aerial Lifts | Construction News

Delta-Q Technologies has expanded its family of on-board battery chargers by unveiling two new IC Series models for use in electric and hybrid aerial work platforms.

The new IC900 and IC1200 industrial battery chargers join the company’s IC650 charger to form a common charging platform for use across manufacturers’ product lines.

IC Series chargers are designed to withstand the rugged operating conditions faced by electric scissor lifts, boom lifts, and hybrid boom lifts.

Users benefit from precise charging of lead acid (wet/flooded, sealed AGM, or gel) batteries or of lithium-ion batteries.

The three models in the IC Series lineup put out 650, 900, and 1200 watts of DC power, respectively, and all are available in 24-, 36- and 48-volt models.

Delta-Q is now accepting requests for samples of the IC900 and IC1200 chargers for delivery in December 2015. The company expects to begin full commercial production in March 2016.

“IC Series chargers are highly reliable solutions that meet the machine up-time requirements of users such as rental and construction companies,” said Trent Punnett, vice president, product management and marketing at Delta-Q. “As a common technology platform, these chargers make machines easier to use and maintain, and provide flexibility for different battery types so manufacturers can easily integrate an IC Series charger—customizing for the needs of their customers and differentiating their machine.”

Delta-Q validates IC Series chargers for long service life in challenging on-board applications. IP66-rated ingress protection seals out dirt and fluids, while mechanical design and component selection help resist factors such as vibration, shock and temperature extremes.

Delta-Q says its products provide “charge quality” for lithium-ion and lead-acid batteries using charge profiles developed in the company’s battery lab. The high-performance profiles balance battery life, longevity, and charge time. Delta-Q has commercialized more than 50 charge profiles, ensuring that users experience better run time and flexibility for different battery chemistries.

Optional CANbus communication between the charger and other components provides machine diagnostics and servicing information, and safe lithium ion battery charging.

IC Series chargers store charge-cycle data, which is accessible via a built-in USB port. The USB port also enables software updates and new charge profiles to be installed from a pre-programmed flash drive.

All IC Series chargers have a wide AC input range and will work on any single-phase electrical grid worldwide.

The IC650 holds broad regulatory approvals, and identical approvals are intended for the IC900 and IC1200.
