European Aerial Invasion

In addition to North American manufacturers displaying their wares at The Rental Show, European aerial lift OEMs attended the annual event with new machines aimed for entry into U.S. and Canadian rental fleets.

Reachmaster, Kingwood, Texas, displayed the all-aluminum 98-foot DL98 TowIt trailer-mounted aerial, which comes equipped with true self-propelled drive from the basket and a 48-volt battery system. With a low 7,700-pound overall weight, the lift can be towed behind a standard F-150 class truck. The TowIt machine is produced by Denka Lift in Denmark, which Reachmaster gained access to following the merger of Denka Lift and Falck Schmidt AS in 2005.

The company also has introduced its third Lightlift unit, manufactured by Hinowa Spa, to the North American market. The Lightlift LL76 features a 70-foot platform height and a 38-foot outreach. Weighing only 6,600 pounds, the LL76 is easily transported and ideal for indoor and outdoor applications. A standard automatic outrigger setting allows for machine setup on slopes with gradients up to 13°. Air and water lines and 110-volt power to the platform are also standard.

Italian manufacturer Oil & Steel showed its Octopus 55 compact crawler-mounted aerial lift at The Rental Show. Distributed by PM North America, Rolling Meadows, Ill., the Octopus 55 measures 31 inches wide and 79 inches tall and work in narrow spaces. The new Octopus 55’s outriggers can be stabilized in just 8.2 x 8.2 feet. Due to its reduced dimensions and weight, this model can be easily transported with a small trailer or loaded on a small truck. It also can be moved with a crane.

The Octopus 55 is a single/double operator platform. Because of a special loading device installed on the basket, the operator can choose to work with a 300-pound single operator or 500-pound, two-operator working area. Using the 300-pound working area, the Octopus 55 has more than 49 feet of platform height and about 22 feet of outreach. With the 500-pound platform selected, the platform offers more than 43 feet of maximum platform height and about 17 feet of lateral outreach.

The Octopus 55 is equipped with two different power systems: a diesel engine and a 110V electric single-phase auxiliary engine, which is useful in case of indoor application or the necessity for avoiding noises and exhaust gas. The Octopus 55 complies with the last ANSI regulations.

OMME Lift USA, Syosset, N.Y., introduced the 2750 RBDJ track-mounted self-propelled spider-type lift, manufactured by OMME Lift of Denmark, at The Rental Show. The knuckleboom compact lift has an 84-foot platform height with a 52-foot side reach. A key feature of the machine is it is battery powered, rechargeable from a 110-volt source or by the Kubota diesel engine, making it a true hybrid system in the lifting equipment industry. Other notable features include the movable jib, rotating basket, 440 pounds of platform capacity, and variable-width tracked undercarriage. The articulating lower boom allows for zero tail extension while rising.

The machine's 11,000-pound weight allows for trailer transportation with a pickup truck and eliminates the impact caused by heavier, conventional equipment to soft or delicate surfaces. Measuring 44"x294"x92", the OMME 2750 RBDJ's compact dimensions make the unit ideal for any interior/exterior maintenance or construction company, tree service, rental outfit, casino, amusement park, or billboard contractor.
