Forklift Operator Killed in Mining Accident

Fatal Forklift Accident

Des Moines, Neb., October 2012—A utility miner with 19 years of experience was killed on the surface of an underground limestone mine. He was driving a forklift downhill toward the mine entrance when the forklift went out of control. It struck a concrete support for a conveyor and overturned, killing him. The federal Mine Health and Safety Administration (MSHA) is investigating. MSHA reports that this was the sixth haulage-related fatality of 2012, compared to two during the same period in 2011.  –
