Forklift Tipover Kills Texas Mine Worker | Construction News

The federal Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) has announced that a warehouse bagger with one week of experience was killed at an open-pit clay mine on Dec. 29, 2014, when the forklift he was driving tipped over.

The victim was operating the forklift at a mine near Tilden, Texas, to haul a bag of dust, when the forklift overturned.  Details of the accident have not yet been released, but the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) is investigating.

MSHA says the death was the 24th reported in metal and non-metal mining during calendar year 2014. That toll stands at two more than the 22 fatalities reported in metal and nonmetal mining during 2013. It was also the eighth powered-haulage fatality in 2014, compared to seven in 2013.
