Genie Introduces New GTH-1544 Prototype Telehandler | Daily Construction News

Genie has broadened its family of telehandlers with the new Genie GTH-1544 prototype. The new 15,000 lb capacity model is the largest Genie telehandler of the product line to be announced and offers qualities owners and end users will value through outstanding reliability, durability, performance, and operator comfort. Production will begin in the second quarter 2013 with availability in ANSI and CSA marketplaces.

“We are very excited to expand our commitment to the Genie telehandler line of products by announcing the new Genie GTH-1544 prototype,” said Scott Krieger, senior product manager, aerial booms and telehandlers, Terex Aerial Work Platforms (AWP). “We have seen a trend toward larger telehandlers, not only in larger construction sites, but also the burgeoning oil and gas industries, in mines, and in ports. This product will offer a new standard for the industry by offering exceptional quality and sought-after features.”

The Genie GTH-1544 telehandler is based off of the foundation of the Terex telehandler introduced in 2007 which was built specifically to meet the demanding needs of the military. The Genie GTH-1544 adds features and benefits designed for today’s rigorous job requirements. The telehandler provides industry leading lift height of 44 ft. and forward reach of 27' 3". The lift capacity at maximum height is 10,000 lbs. and 3,500 lbs. at maximum reach. The operating weight is 33,686 lbs.

A newly-designed cab provides ergonomic features and greater comfort to the operator, including an optional fully-enclosed cab with full glass, defroster, wipers, heater, split door, washer, and air-conditioning. It has other options, including a rear viewing video camera with a monitor inside the cab.

“Our design focus was to create a new standard for large telehandlers, one which meets and exceeds customers’ requirements for ease of operation, excellent reliability every day and a level of performance that will continually enhance their return on investment,” said Krieger.

The machine provides visibility and serviceability with a side-mounted engine compartment.  The engine compartment provides easy access to maintenance, filters, belts, and to perform all service work, and if major engine work is required, it can be removed from the machine in less than two hours. Hydraulic circuit test ports are positioned in a single location inside the engine compartment with clear identification and cross-reference with hydraulic schematics. The engine compartment offers access panels that are easily removable for maintenance, as well as a rear access panel for boom maintenance. The hydraulic oil filter can be easily replaced with no oil leakage or contamination.

Engine choices include Tier 4i compliant platforms from either Deutz (154 HP) or Perkins (147 HP), with 22,500 lbs. of drawbar pull. The GTH-1544 features a two speed hydrostatic transmission, with shift-on-the-go capabilities, and drive speeds reach a quick 18 mph. The outside turning radius is a tight 14'7".  The well balanced telehandler requires no outriggers for operation.

Optional attachments are available including quick attach carriages, several sizes of forks, a rubbish bucket, a 14-ft. truss boom and a 7-ft. truss boom. Other attachments will be released during 2013.
