Guardian Fall Protection Opens Training Facility

Kent, Wash.-based Guardian Fall Protection recently announced the completion of its new training facility, located in Martinsburg, W.Va. Guardian Fall Protection manufactures a full product line of fall protection gear available through distribution partners nationwide.

The 4,000-square-foot facility was completed two months ago and is about an hour north of Washington Dulles airport. Guardian offers three classes at the facility: a 16-hour construction class, a four-hour introduction to fall protection, and a four-hour roofer course.

The two-day, 16-hour construction course reviews the OSHA standard 1926.500 - 1926.503 and touches on the requirements of ANZI Z359. The class reviews the latest statistics and why fall protection is so important in the workplace. Other topics covered are the different types and amount of OSHA fines. The class also sees applications of passive and active systems, along with ladder safety equipment, and reviews suspension trauma. Drop tests are also performed so that a few participants can experience suspension. Participants also look at the latest products on the market ranging from roof anchors, anchor points, shock absorbing lanyards, harnesses and horizontal lifelines.

At the completion of the course, attendees are given a 25 question test. Upon completion, the attendee receives a certificate and a wallet card. Each attendee also receives a binder with the course materials.

Guardian plans to add other classes in the future, including an equipment inspection class, eight-hour supervisor class and a 32-hour, highly detailed class designed for the safety professional.

Upcoming two-day competent person class dates are Jan. 27-28, Feb. 10-11 and Feb. 24-25. The classes cost $895 per person.
