Houston Selected for Industrial Crane & Hoist Conference

Houston, Texas was selected as the location for the debut Industrial Crane & Hoist Conference for its proximity to heavy industrial complexes. The event will be held May 26-27, 2010. Houston’s petrochemical base means that the region has not felt the effects of the economy as strongly as other areas.

“Houston is one of the largest petrochemical centers in the world. Serviced by a major port, it is also home to manufacturing and oil exploration concerns. This, combined with an active construction market, translates into a large concentration of cranes of all types at work in the area,” said Guy Ramsey, publisher of Industrial Lift and Hoist magazine, the event's organizer.

Speakers will address topics of concern to crane and hoist users in these industries. Among the topics and speakers are:

Overhead Load Protection and Weighing Solutions

            Keith Daley, Hirschmann

            Inspection Techniques for Technicians

            Richard Warriner, Ace World Companies

Overhead Crane Component Aging and Obsolecence

Pete Richards and Fred Wolsey, Bruce Power

Review of ASME Standards for Below-the-Hook Devices

            Al Abel, Mazzella Lifting Technologies

The Crowne Plaza Houston/North Greenspoint offers an ideal venue for the event. Located just eight miles from George Bush Intercontinental Airport, the hotel underwent a $16 million renovation in 2008. In addition to 331 oversized Texas-themed guestrooms, the hotel offers ample meeting and exhibition space all on one level. Both George Bush Intercontinental and William P. Hobby airports offer direct flights to many U.S. cities. As a convenience, the Crowne Plaza offers free shuttle service from George Bush Intercontinental.
