IPAF Offers Free eLearning for AWP Operators | Construction News

IPAF, a world leader in aerial operator training, is introducing state-of-the-art online training modules called New Generation eLearning, one of two major components required in compliant operator training.

The self-paced, interactive, and dynamic aerial operator training modules are currently available in English or Spanish for free until December 31st, 2016, to anyone in the United States or Canada.

The modules are ideal for anyone who wants to learn to operate an aerial lift properly, or for existing operators who simply want to refresh their knowledge.

You can sign up for the free eLearning modules at www.ipaf.com/safeMEWPs

“There is an ongoing need for properly trained aerial operators and overall safety awareness in the United States and Canada,” said Tony Groat, IPAF North America Manager. “Not only is it important for aerial operators to be working in a safe and productive manner at all times, it is also mandatory for companies to ensure they have trained workers on their jobsites every day," added Groat. "IPAF’s new eLearning modules are an important tool to help reach this objective. By offering these modules for free through 2016, we hope we can reach as many people as possible to take advantage of this great opportunity,” he said.

IPAF statistics show that more than 50 fatal incidents happen in the United States and Canada each year. Twenty-four were reported through the first six months of this year.

According to IPAF research, it can be argued that most fatal accidents involving aerial work platforms (AWPs), also known as mobile elevated work platforms (MEWPs), anywhere in the world could have been prevented through proper training.

IPAF’s New Generation eLearning modules offer the highest technology in interactive tools. The modules engage trainees through games, quizzes, videos, and simulations to help them retain the required knowledge and skills for their daily operations.

The online training was developed over two years in the U.S. by members of the industry, including manufacturers and rental companies and provides a consistent message to trainees.

“The modules are engaging and diverse, making it an enjoyable way to test your skill and absorb important knowledge,” said Groat. “Because the multi-hour training is internet-based, users have the flexibility to take the training anytime, stop and start conveniently at their own pace, anywhere they have internet access.”

The 12-segment training may be completed within a 30-day period.

Optionally, trainees who wish to achieve compliant operator training, upon successful completion of the eLearning modules, may contact any of IPAF’s more than 50 approved training centers to arrange completing the hands-on operational evolutional component of the training for a fee.

That hands-on training requires the completion of a written theory test and the practical operation of an AWP in front of a qualified person to demonstrate knowledge and proficiency.

Alternately, a trainer can personally visit your location for a separate fee, based on the number of trainees. Successful trainees who complete both the eLearning modules course and the practical evaluation will receive a Smart PAL Card (Powered Access Licensed-Registration) as proof of operator training.

Trainees opting for an instructor-led theory course will also benefit from the same state-of-the-art graphics, animations and learning techniques. They will continue to interact with an instructor and fellow students in a classroom setting. This training can be arranged at an approved training center.

More than a million operators have been trained, and more than 650,000 PAL Cards are active worldwide today. PAL Cards can be verified online at www.ipaf.org/checkpal

IPAF’s PAL Cards are active for five years, but the eLearning modules may be retaken as a refresher course anytime along the way.
