Joe Banks Promoted to President of Man Lift Manufacturing | Construction News

Universal Mfg. Co. (UMC) has promoted of Joe Banks to president of its Man Lift Mfg. Co (MLM) division, effective immediately.

The move comes in response to the expansion of MLM’s position in the engineered solutions and product markets, as well as to the most recent U.S. Dept. of State (DoS) contract with UMC's Ultra Armoring & Defense (UAD) division, and the rapid growth of UMC's  Metal Works Mfg. Co. (MWM) division.

Phil Sprio, who had been president of all three divisions, continues as president of the UAD and MWM divisions, while Joe Banks now focuses on MLM.

“Due the rapidly changing landscape of the three divisions, we need to continue to leverage our leadership and their concentration,” said Thomas Hance, CEO and president of the parent company UMC.

UMC believes that UAD is in position to leverage its ability and expertise in the defense market by increasing its focus.

Likewise, the MWM division's unique ability to bend and form big, heavy, thick metal also puts it in position to expand. MWM’s markets will be combined under Phil Sprio, as they include both commercial markets and formed sheet metal for the armor and defense industries.

“Phil’s expertise and experience, and most recently his leadership in winning the DoS contract, indicate that with his vision, drive, and dedication to the brands, Ultra Armoring and Metal Works are positioned for rapid growth,” said Hance.

All three divisions are located at the parent company UMC's plant in Shelby, N.C.

Although it will still operate from the UMC facility, MLM will become a self-standing division reporting to Joe Banks. "Joe’s extensive expertise in MLM operations, engineering and markets, along with his long tenure in the company, make him a solid fit," said Hance.
